Here's the triage method I use when a call comes in. First, how much time is actually left? If it's less than 24 hours, your best move is to find the fastest local solution—a repair part on the shelf, a rental, or a qualified outside welder. If you have 3-5 days, you can repair with shipped parts or buy new.

Second, is the problem a consumable or a core failure? If it's consumable, fix it yourself. If it's a core failure and the repair quote is close to the machine's value, replace it.

Third, do you have the skill in-house? If not, bring in someone who has it. That's true for both electrical repairs and specialized processes like PPR fusion or automated TIG.

And one last piece of advice: prepare before the panic. Write down the model and serial numbers of every welder you own. Keep a list of authorized dealer contacts. Stock the common Miller Electric welder parts. Have a vetted number for night-shift welders. You'll never regret the 30 minutes that takes.
